I needed more confidence at sea, so I became a day skipper.

I’ve been thinking seriously about taking some sailing courses. The RYA courses are the most appealing ones available based on my research. With my level of sailing experience, I can take a simple course and become a certified day skipper. They teach all the most valuable navigational info, and it’s inexpensive.

Because I have such an easy pathway to becoming a day skipper, it’s hard for me to ignore it. Every time I find myself out on the sea, I always feel a little bit afraid. It’s so empty out there and you wonder if you have the knowledge to handle an emergency. If I had some sailing courses, I know I would feel better about things. The RYA courses teach everything from beginning information all the way to the most advanced aspects of navigation. Whatever your level of experience, you can always find an appropriate course.

There is also a certain sense of pride that comes with knowing you’ve taken your RYA courses and become a day skipper. I’ll be able to tell my friends that I’ve been certified. Next time we’re out on the boat, I can brag a little bit about my training, and if an emergency happens, I can fall back on all the information I learned in my sailing courses. I’m honestly really excited to take my courses.
